Giving back to the community

Air Products is committed to not only the safety and health of its workers, but also the health, wellbeing and livelihood of the communities in which we operate.

We are the world’s largest hydrogen supplier and have been operating in the Humber for over four decades, producing and distributing hydrogen as a process gas from our facilities in Hull. Our teams live and work in the area, and we are already part of the local community and active members of initiatives such as Future Humber and CATCH.

Developing skills for the future

Air Products will be seeking to provide a range of apprenticeship and training opportunities for local people throughout the construction and operational phases of our projects.

We're engaging with local schools and colleges to provide opportunities for local children and students to learn and develop new skills through initiatives such as the National Careers Challenge and Children Challenging Industry.

National Careers Challenge

Air Products sponsors the Year 7 hydrogen challenge and students' task is to present ideas for market uses for green hydrogen, such as using hydrogen fuel cell buses for public transportation or using hydrogen fuel cells to power municipal garbage trucks. As part of the challenge children learn about hydrogen and how it can help to decarbonise transport.

Each participating school sends their best teams to the national finals where each team presents their campaign to judging panels with the overall winner announced at the final. Air Products fully funds ten secondary schools in Immingham to participate in the challenge and attend the final.

Children Challenging Industry

Air Products funds three primary schools in the Humber to take part in the events organised by the University of York. Children learn about industrial gases and how they contribute to industry. They are given challenges to complete in the classroom followed by a visit to our facility in Hull.
