Air Products Becomes an Official Partner of the European Agency for Safety & Health at Work Healthy Workplaces ‘Lighten the Load’ Campaign

As part of its goal of being the safest industrial gas company in the world, Air Products (NYSE: APD) is taking another measurable step towards achieving that objective by becoming an official partner of the European Agency for Safety & Health at Work (EU-OSHA) Healthy Workplaces ‘Lighten the Load’ campaign.

The Healthy Workplaces ‘Lighten the Load’ campaign focuses on work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).  Anyone can suffer from MSDs at work – millions of workers across Europe do – with about three in every five workers in the European Union reporting MSD complaints, based on data from the sixth European Working Conditions Survey

Work-related MSDs are impairments of bodily structures, such as muscles, joints and tendons, that are caused or aggravated primarily by work or the effects of the immediate work environment. With Air Products’ focus on safety and care for its employees, the team knows that MSDs can be highly detrimental to an individual’s quality of life and ability to work, and are one of the most common causes of disability, sick leave and early retirement. Air Products believes every incident or accident is preventable, and has a goal of zero injuries within a work environment where individuals are able to thrive.

Martin Snape, EHS&Q Director at Air Products, said: “Becoming a partner of the ‘Lighten the Load’ campaign will enable us to share best practices and learn from each other to reduce these types of injury. At Air Products our goal is always to ensure our employees and contractors go home in the same condition that they came to work in that day, and our involvement in this campaign will help us to achieve this.

“Many of our tasks are manual intensive and, irrespective of the number of safety initiatives we have in place, we are always looking for advice and guidance from other organisations as to how we can improve. Being able to work with a reputable third-party organisation like EU-OSHA will provide an opportunity to share new ideas and information with our colleagues that can refresh and support the current programmes we utilise in the area of manual handling”.
