John studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey and Michigan State University, graduating in 1989. He joined Air Products the same year as an engineer, first in the gases division and then in the chemicals production site at Clayton in Manchester.

He moved a year later to the product management group within the polyurethane chemicals division in the UK and then in Germany in 1992. After two years in the role, John moved to lead the implementation of an MRP (materials resource planning) system at the Clayton site, working from a base in Utrecht.

In 1995, John came back to the UK to join the newly formed CPI sales organisation, responsible for selling industrial gases to the chemical industry in the Midlands and the South of England. A further sales role followed with the generated gases team selling Prism membranes, PSA's and HPN's for on-site generation of nitrogen. He then moved to internal account management for the IT group, supporting the sales and marketing organisations in Europe, and finally joined the e-business team as a project manager in September 2000 where he has led the implementation of standards for multi-lingual applications and the implementation of the APDirect system here in Europe.

As well as managing projects, as part of the European e-business team, John takes an active part in the promotion of e-business within the company and supports key e-business programs with our major business partners.
