Air Products achieves highest standard for information security

15^th June 2010 —The UK-based Healthcare team at Air Products has successfully achieved the highest possible standard for its information management systems, setting a best practice example for other health sector service providers.

ISO27001:2005 is awarded to companies that meet strict quality criteria for the way they manage and maintain information, thus providing a risk management assurance to their customers. The standard covers all commercial and financial information stored and used by the company - across all departments and geographies - including end-user and employee details.

As a supplier of gas products and services to the National Health Service (NHS), Air Products’ Healthcare team stores and handles data for patients throughout the UK and it is vital that this information is securely protected.

Adam Sullivan, general manager for Air Products’ Healthcare team in the UK and Ireland, said: “I am delighted with this achievement, which is recognition of the importance that we as a business place on information security. The fact that we achieved this standard first time, without the need to modify our existing management systems is particularly pleasing.

The auditor was complementary of risk-aware culture he found at Air Products, which was evident in the company’s commitment to information security. He also made special mention of the company’s policy of recruiting volunteer auditors from the workforce, calling it an example of best practice.”
