AIR PRODUCTS’ FRESHLINE® DM TUNNEL FREEZER OFFERS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

25 February 2010 — Air Products, the leading cryogenic gas, equipment and services supplier, has launched its most versatile freezer to date – the Freshline® DM tunnel freezer. This highly flexible cryogenic freezing solution allows manufacturers to freeze individually quick frozen (IQF) and non-IQF food products in a single machine. The unique two-in-one freezer offers significant capital savings as well as improved IQF quality in seafood, meat and poultry, vegetables, fruit, dairy produce and pasta.

With UK frozen food retail sales now touching £5 billion , many users of mechanical and cryogenic freezing systems are looking to increase capacity or extend their product lines. In allowing operators to switch easily between IQF and non-IQF products without the need to change equipment, the DM tunnel freezer maximises uptime and optimises efficiency, while giving producers and contract manufacturers the ability to adapt quickly to changing market demand.

The dual mode freezer can be installed alongside existing freezing equipment. Capable of handling up to 1,800 of product per hour, this innovative equipment has only a small footprint. Its installation is simple and the modular design permits cleaning in place and compliance with all international hygiene standards. Capital outlay, freezing cost and efficiency are all optimised.

In addition to operational benefits, the Freshline DM tunnel freezer boasts significant qualitative advantages. Rapid and consistent cryogenic cooling means foods are frozen quickly and efficiently. This results in smaller ice crystals, which reduce hydration loss during the freezing process itself and subsequent thawing. The retention of moisture through cryogenic freezing improves final product quality and maximises value.

Ann Callens, Air Products’ European business development manager, Food and Cryogenics, says: “The Freshline DM tunnel freezer has been developed to offer manufacturers exactly the flexibility they need in today’s food market. Competition is intense, and gaining competitive advantage and brand loyalty is dependent on maximising efficiency, flexibility and quality. The dual mode concept offers a single solution to the many and varied demands placed on the producers at a low capital cost."

“Investment in freezing equipment is an important decision, especially in today’s economic climate, where high capital outlay might not be possible or desirable. For this reason, we work with our customers to design and install the ideal solution which is low risk, will provide a rapid return on investment and will meet their future needs, as well as their current requirements. Continued and reliable technical support is an integral part of the service we offer to all our customers.”
