Friday,  6th March 2009 — Children at King Fahad Academy are to receive a science lesson with a difference thanks to local industrial gas company Air Products. On Tuesday, 10th March, 2009, Ray Sacks, Global Engineering from Air Products will perform an exciting, interactive science demonstration to children aged between 11 and 15 years old.

Using actual gases such as liquid nitrogen and everyday objects including flowers, Ray Sacks will perform a demonstration that safely brings science to life in front of the children’s eyes. Experiments will include hammering an iron nail into a piece of wood using a Liquid Nitrogen-frozen banana and creating nitrogen filled bubbles with washing up liquid!

Mohammed Baba, Head of Science at the school said: “When the news was relayed to us that the King Fahad Academy had won the top prize, a demo by the Science Ambassador, we were bowled over, and the students cannot contain their excitement and anticipation for the big day.

Creating much needed excitement around science and engineering subjects through these demonstrations is a great. I’m sure it will encourage more of our children to think about following careers in these professions when they get older.

We are really pleased Air Products are willing to invest in the next generation of scientists that will hopefully benefit our region and the industry.”

Diana Raine, Air Products Hydrogen Energy Systems, added: "One of Air Products' key social responsibility aims is to provide a valuable contribution to the education of young people, particularly through science. By sharing our knowledge and experience, in conjunction with the London Hydrogen Partnership, we are confident this can be achieved through our sponsorship of the Challenge."

Ray sacks, Global Engineering and Science Ambassador at Air Products, said: “By working with schools and conducting real science experiments linked to the National Curriculum, our aim is to capture the kids’ imaginations and dispel the myth that science is boring! King Fahad Academy is a great school with promising students; hopefully by working together we can help encourage some of them to become engineers in the future!”
