Watch Out – Slow Moving Load Ahead!
Firstly, who is Air Products and what do we do?
Air Products was founded in 1940 and serves customers in technology, energy, healthcare and industrial markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of products, services and solutions, providing atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials and chemical intermediates. From its manufacturing facility in Acrefair, North Wales, the company exports industrial gases plant and equipment all over the world, including process equipment for air separation, natural gas liquefaction, hydrogen purification and other gas processing applications.
About the Slow Moving Loads …
The item of equipment being moved today is a Cold Box measuring 44.8 metres in length, 5.2 metres wide x 4.2 metres high and weighing 124 tonnes. The cold box was manufactured by our team in Acrefair and is now on its way to the Ellesmere Port Dock Complex. From there it will be loaded onto a ship bound for Saudi Arabia.
Some Technical Terms & Trivia
Did you know that …
- Many of the road and roundabout signs along route are mounted on special hinges so they can be lowered to allow the load to pass by safely!
- Load movements travel at an approx speed of 8 mph
- Multi-wheeled trailers are used to carry these huge loads safely on their way, this load is being moved on a total of 112 wheels!
- Because of the length and size of our loads, they’re steered from both the front and the back!
- It will take about 10 hours in total for the load to travel between Acrefair, North Wales and the Ellesmere Port Dock complex
- The load travels through 3 counties to reach Ellesmere Port
