Chemical Industry Association Names Air Products Company of the Year for Its Commitment to People Development
10th July 2006 — The Chemical Industries Association (CIA), the UK’s leading trade association for the chemical and chemistry-using industries, has honored Air Products with its highly-coveted Company of the Year Award 2006.
In a statement, the CIA said, “The Chemical Industry Company of the Year Award identifies which, of all the winning companies, has made the most significant contribution to developing the successful future of the chemical industry. Air Products plc won the award for its commitment to people development and creating a diversified and engaged workforce, setting a precedent which many more companies are now following.”
The CIA aims to achieve a sustainable UK chemical industry by supporting innovation, competitiveness and playing a positive role in society, while reducing impact on the environment. Their annual awards seek to honor continuing commitment to excellence and outstanding performance within the industry.
Representatives at the CIA noted that Air Products impressed the judges by taking a personal responsibility for career development, strongly supported by the company’s dedicated, specialist teams whose vision is based around being “the best company to buy from, work for and invest in.” In addition to the Company of the Year recognition, Air Products also received the CIA’s People Development Award which honors organizations leading the way in the development of their people, celebrating how responsibilities such as human resources, occupational health and leadership development are showing true innovation in putting people first.
Dave Edmondson, vice president, global engineering organization—Europe who accepted the awards on behalf of Air Products, commented, “The task of implementing effective employee development programs across our global business is substantial, and for this reason we need to show full commitment. For our business to continue developing and growing, we need to attract people capable of becoming ‘tomorrow’s leaders,’ and we need to retain our current employees by keeping them engaged and challenged. So we subscribe to the view that employee development not only benefits our people but also contributes to the success of our business.”
