AIR PRODUCTS STRENGTHENS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE EUROPEAN HYDROGEN ECONOMY

Wednesday, 18 January 2006 — Air Products and its Spanish subsidiary Carburos Metalicos today announced that they have agreed to provide a grant to NTDA Energia, a leading company in hydrogen and fuel cell technology applications in Spain. This investment further demonstrates Air Products’ commitment to the development of the European hydrogen economy.

Agustin Escardino, President and CEO of NTDA Energia said: ‘This investment is a further step forward in the close relationship between NTDA and Air Products. We are very pleased about Air Products’ commitment, as we expand our activities in Spain and in Europe on systems integration, fuel cell development and strategic projects. NTDA and Air Products are fully committed to jointly contribute to the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies within the framework of the EU Deployment Strategy and the future EU Joint Technology Initiative.’

Air Products produces over 1.25 million tonnes of hydrogen per year and has six liquid hydrogen facilities and seven hydrogen pipeline systems around the world. It has been involved in the production and supply of hydrogen for over 50 years and has supplied all the liquid hydrogen for NASA’s space missions. Air Products also supplies to a variety of other industries, including metals processing, refining, chemical production, fat and oils production and electronics processing, as well as supplying hydrogen purification equipment.

The company is strongly committed towards the future development of hydrogen in energy applications such as vehicle fuel and its use in a fuel cell to generate power. New technologies are being developed such as hydrogen fuelling stations. More than 30 fuelling stations have been built in the past 10 years. Other projects included a contract to supply the German Navy fuel cell submarines with hydrogen and the supply of India’s first hydrogen dispensing station.
