DUPONT AIR PRODUCTS NANOMATERIALS L.L.C.
TO EXPAND ITS GLOBAL ELECTRONICS PORTFOLIO
TEMPE, Ariz., April 27, 2004 -DuPont Air Products
NanoMaterials L.L.C. (DA NanoMaterials), a 50/50 joint venture
of DuPont and Air Products, today announced that it is expanding
its electronic polishing and planarization business. Each
parent company will be adding newly acquired Chemical Mechanical
Planarization (CMP) slurry businesses to the DA NanoMaterials
portfolio. The expansion strengthens the joint ventures
product portfolio and creates a more substantial presence
in the semiconductor industry.
Air Products will contribute the slurry technologies acquired
during the purchase of the Electronic Chemicals business
of the Ashland Specialty Chemical Company in August 2003,
and DuPont will contribute the slurry technologies of EKC
Technology, a high performance chemical supplier that it
purchased as a part of ChemFirst in 2002 and added to its
Electronic Technologies business unit.
The expansion will add critical mass to the joint venture
while strengthening a growing portfolio of products for
electronic polishing and planarization applications. Floyd
McClung will serve as chief executive officer of the expanded
venture, which now will offer a wider range of abrasives,
extended surfactant chemistries and novel slurry chemistries.
By offering a more comprehensive product portfolio
along with additional technical capabilities, DA NanoMaterials
is best positioned to serve a growing market, says
Jerry Ermentrout, vice president and general manager, Electronics
Division, Air Products. That expanded scope and breadth
of services directly translates into tangible benefits for
our global customers. Its a move that demonstrates
how were committed to providing DA NanoMaterials with
the resources and scalability to move ahead.
This expansion combines three dynamic groups with
a history of innovation, technical excellence and real potential
to influence how technology starts, with materials designed
to help customers meet todays business and technical
challenges, adds David B. Miller, vice president and
general manager for DuPont Electronic Technologies.
DA NanoMaterials (www.nanoslurry.com
) was formed in 2000 to combine the success of DuPont Electronic
Technologies in developing and manufacturing colloidal silica
sols and particles for electronic polishing applications
with Air Products infrastructure, new product capabilities
and global supply of electronic gases and chemicals into
the semiconductor manufacturing market. The expanded organization
will be headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, where the venture
will operate a state-of-the-art applications and formulation
laboratory. The expanded joint venture will provide enhanced
global technical support that will include additional tool
platforms and critical metrology. The manufacturing and
supply chains DA NanoMaterials customers have utilized since
2000 will continue, as will access to the extensive analytical
and research capabilities of the parent companies.
