Air Products appoints Colin Smith as
Head of Medical Division

15th December 2003 Air Products has
appointed Colin Smith to lead its Medical Division
in the UK and Ireland. Colin, a Chartered Physicist
and Engineer, will be responsible for developing Air
Products' hospital gas and equipment supply service
as well as the company's Homecare and related businesses.
Until recently Colin was responsible for marketing
and global restructuring of Air Products' bulk gases
division, a business area that is central to effective
hospital gas supply. Prior to this he set up Air Products'
European research laboratories in Basingstoke, and
the Medical Research Group, which has its headquarters
in Barcelona, Spain.
According to Colin, ensuring hospital customers benefit
from the latest technology and service improvements
will be a top priority: "One of our core areas
of focus will be exploring ways of making life easier
for our customers and helping them to enhance the
quality of patient care. Of course providing good
value and reliable delivery are the foundations of
our service, so we will be constantly looking at ways
of maintaining our competitiveness, but we also know
that there are many other important factors such as
simplifying our billing and enhancing our inventory
management services that add value to our hospital
customers.
"Continuing to develop secure, sound and dependable
technology will always be high on the agenda. For
example there is more work to be done in developing
telemetry, so that it integrates with other hospital
systems and provides user-friendly web-based information.
"We will also closely follow changes to HTM
2022, so that we can work with customers to remain
at the forefront of regulatory and safety compliance."
Colin's appointment is part of an ongoing expansion
of the Air Products Medical team. Further appointments
include a Hospital Business Manager, and a Quality
and Regulatory Affairs Manager, with more developments
expected as the company extends its involvement in
other areas of medical services.
