Air Products invests in two new plants
at Llanwern
19th November 2002 - Air Products PLC today announced
that it has brought on stream a new Air Separation Unit
(ASU) for Corus at its Llanwern site, Wales, alongside a
hydrogen plant commissioned earlier this year. The plants
will be operated and maintained at the site of APLLAN, a
joint venture between Air Products and Corus. Both plants
were delivered ahead of schedule.
The plants will produce 400T/D of nitrogen, 2T/D of hydrogen
and a quantity of oxygen, and will supply Corus, Orb Electrical
Steels, and other South Wales clients, through on site generation
and pipeline.
At the opening of the new ASU, Dr Mark Carr, Managing Director,
Corus Strip Products UK, said "The investment in the
new Air Separation Unit will play an important role in the
development of New Llanwern as a highly productive operation
processing quality steel products for demanding markets."
"Air Products has had a long association with the
South Wales market and we are proud that we can continue
the tradition of delivering quality products and services
to Corus and to other clients", says Alan Belk, Chairman
of the APLLAN joint venture.
Both plants were built in the UK; Air Product's manufacturing
plant based in Acrefair, North Wales, built the ASU.
