Air Products sponsors welding skills at
Skillweld 2002
Monday 8th April 2002 - For the second year running,
Air Products PLC, a subsidiary of Air Products and Chemicals
Inc (NYSE: APD), sponsored SkillWeld, the National Welding
Competition for Welding Apprentices.
As sponsor, Air Products has provided all the welding gases
used during the competition, including the regional competitions
as well as the National Final. Air Products also provided
the three winners prizes, which were presented by The Rt
Hon Lord Trefgarne PC, Chairman of Engineering and Marine
Training Authority, Chairman of SkillENG and a Board Member
of UK SKILLS. The National Final was held at The Welding
Institute, Great Abington, Cambridgeshire, on 2-4 April
2002.
Air Products considers its sponsorship of Skillweld to
be an important part of its programme to support the future
of welding.

The increased number of participants and the quality of
their skills bodes well for the continual resilience of
the UK Welding industry", said Gary Cunliffe, Metal
Fabrication Marketing Manager, Air Products.
To further support and encourage entrants to the Metal
Fabrication industry, Air Products has created a 'College
Pack', which includes training and safety material. This
pack will be sent to the welding department of every college
in the UK.
One of the finalists of the UK Skillweld Finals will be
chosen to attend the next 'Skills Olympics', in St Gallen,
Switzerland in 2003.
