The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust celebrates 02/02/02 with free oxygen 'top-up'

The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust received its free oxygen 'top-up' today to mark oxygen day (02/02/02).

2nd February 2002 — The delivery was organised by Air Products Plc, suppliers of medical oxygen to the hospital. The company is giving all of its NHS hospital customers in the UK a free oxygen top-up as part of its oxygen day celebrations, aimed at highlighting the impact that the oxygen has on people's lives.

In recent years, Air Products Plc has taken a leading role in the modernisation of medical oxygen supply to NHS hospitals and in services for home-based patients.

General Manager of Air Products - Medical Group, Tim MacLeod-Clarke said, "Oxygen day is a fun way for us to highlight the importance of O2. From the manufacture of materials such as metals, glass, paper and chemicals to its application in hospitals for patient ventilation, emergency resuscitation and surgical procedures, oxygen helps to sustain our modern lifestyles in many different ways."

Demand for medical oxygen in the UK has risen by 15% in each of the last three years, requiring new investment in on-site storage facilities and related technologies. This has included new, larger storage systems and the introduction of telemetry, which is leading to fewer deliveries while demand is rising. Air Products - Medical Group currently supplies to more than 20% of NHS hospitals.

Air Products - Medical Group is part of Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (www.airproducts.com), a major international gases group with annual revenues of more than $5.5 billion. The company operates in over 30 countries and has over 17,500 employees. Based on many years experience of supplying the European medical gases market, Air Products -Medical Group is currently introducing new ideas, technologies and service standards to the UK medical market.
