Assist Gases

Air Products offers a full range of pure assist gases for laser cutting of all material types.

Which gases are used?

  • Carbon and alloy steels – oxygen or nitrogen (high pressure)
  • Stainless steels, aluminium & alloys – nitrogen (high pressure)
  • Magnesium, titanium & other reactive materials – argon
    (high pressure)

Each gas has unique properties which make it the preferred assist gas for cutting each of the material groups.

All of these gases are available in a range of convenient and cost effective gas supply options.

How do I cut steel up to 20% faster?

Generally required at pressures up to 10 barg oxygen is available at two purity levels:

  • Industrial grade (min. 99.5% oxygen
  • Lasergas grade (min. 99.95% oxygen)

The standard industrial product is the most widely used and is suitable for all material grades and thickness’. However, the Lasergas grade delivers:

  • Increased cutting speeds (up to 20% faster)
  • Reduced kerf width and improved cut quality
