Going on holiday in Scotland and Northern Ireland

It is possible to travel and go on holiday whilst dependant on oxygen.

However, it is beneficial to try and plan a trip at least 2-4 weeks in advance and always seek medical advice before you book and travel on holiday.  Take details of your ‘home oxygen order’ with you and any accessories you may need.

If you are travelling on holiday in Scotland & Northern Ireland, the oxygen service is free of charge.  There are six easy steps for you to follow when going on holiday:

Step 1
Obtain permission from your GP or respiratory specialist to travel before you book your holiday.

Step 2
Obtain permission for your holiday oxygen equipment to be delivered and stored at your holiday accommodation.

Step 3
If you require the same oxygen equipment as you have at home, contact the Healthcare Helpline as soon as possible, before you travel on holiday.

If you require different oxygen equipment than you have at home, contact your General Practitioner (GP) or specialist team as soon as possible before you travel on holiday.

  • Step 3aIf you require the same equipment as at home
Cylinders – Let the Healthcare Helpline know of your holiday details and we will make arrangements with the local provider.
