Oxygen cylinders

Oxygen cylinders contain medical grade oxygen and come in different sizes.

Type of oxygen cylinder: B10

This is the largest oxygen cylinder available and is provided mainly as a back-up supply for use in the event of a power cut or concentrator failure. This oxygen cylinder is not intended for use as a portable cylinder.

Type of oxygen cylinder: B10 The duration of this oxygen cylinder varies according to your flow rate setting and whether or not you use a conserver. The duration without a conserver varies from 2 hours 21 minutes (at 15 litres per minute) to 70 hours, 44 minutes (at 0.5 litres per minute).

This increases greatly with a conserver, lasting 17 hours (at 6 litres per minute) to 100 hours (at 1 litre per minute).

As a back up cylinder, your B10 should be within easy reach. It should only be used in the event of a power cut or machine breakdown, not for general use.

The duration of this oxygen cylinder without a conserver varies from 28 minutes (at 15 litres per minute) to 71 hours, 40 minutes (at 0.1 litres per minute).

This increases greatly with a conserver, lasting 3 hours (at 6 litres per minute) to 21 hours (at 1 litre per minute).

This is our lightweight oxygen cylinder, only for use by children and frail adults available after a professional medical assessment for ‘ambulatory’ oxygen has been undertaken.

The duration of this oxygen cylinder without a conserver varies from 20 minutes (at 15 litres per minute) to 10 hours, 16 minutes (at 0.5 litres per minute).

This increases greatly with a conserver, lasting 1 hour (at 8 litres per minute) to 15 hours (at 1 litre per minute).

Cylinder safety instructions

  • Do not adjust the oxygen flow rate on your cylinder without consulting your doctor
  • Do not smoke or let others smoke in the presence of oxygen
  • Keep your cylinder away from open flames, cigarettes, stoves or any source of heat.
  • Never use oil or grease on your cylinder valve (On/Off valve) or equipment. This can greatly increase fire risk.
  • Do not let children or untrained persons tamper with your cylinder.
  • Do not cover or hang clothes or dusters on your cylinder.
  • Close your cylinder valve (on/off valve) when not in use.
  • Keep your cylinder below 50ºC in a well-ventilated place.
  • Do not place cannula or mask on upholstery or bedding. Oxygen may be absorbed increasing fire risk.
  • Follow your technician’s advice on where to store your cylinders safely.
Caution!
Never increase or decrease the flow rate on your oxygen cylinder without first consulting your doctor or respiratory specialist.
