11 March 2008 – Kevin Barron MP, Member of Parliament for Rother Valley and Chair of the Health Select Committee in the House of Commons, met home oxygen patients and carers from in and around Sheffield on Friday 29th February.
Kevin Barron attended the patient forum arranged by Air Products, the NHS Home Oxygen Service supplier in Yorkshire and Humberside, at the Aston Hall Hotel in Aston. There he was able to meet respiratory patients who are living at home and using new lightweight portable oxygen cylinders and liquid oxygen.
Declan Weldon, general manager at Air Products Healthcare, said:
“We hold patient forums all around the country and find them an essential way of listening to home oxygen patients, understanding their views about how the service is working for them and answering any questions they may have.
The feedback from patients enables us to keep developing and strengthening the service we provide. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care for our home oxygen patients.
This forum was a great help to us and we were pleased to have such a high turn out. Patients gave us really useful feedback on the quality of our service, holiday arrangements, new technology such as liquid oxygen and oxygen conservers. They very much valued and enjoyed the forum and were delighted that Kevin Barron took the time to attend and listen to their feedback."
Kevin Barron MP said:
“Making a home oxygen service available for those of my constituents who need it is something which I have campaigned for in the past. I am delighted to see Air Products is able to provide this and that the patients are responding so positively to it.
I was also pleased to see the efforts Air Products are making to develop new technology to allow patients to become more mobile.”
