22 February 2008 – Alan Johnson MP, Member of Parliament for Hull West & Hessle and Secretary of State for Health, met home oxygen patients and carers from Hull on Friday 22 nd February at a patient forum arranged by Air Products, the NHS Home Oxygen Service supplier in Hull and across Yorkshire and Humber.
The Health Secretary attended the forum at the Ramada Hotel, Willerby, where he was able to meet respiratory patients who are living at home and using lightweight portable oxygen cylinders and liquid oxygen.
Declan Weldon, General Manager at Air Products Healthcare, said:
“We hold patient forums all around the country. For Air Products, they are an essential way of listening to home oxygen patients, understanding their views about how the service is working for them, and answering any questions they may have. The feedback from patients enables us to keep developing and strengthening the service we provide. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care for our home oxygen patients.
This forum was a great help to us. Patients gave us really useful feedback on the quality of our service, holiday arrangements, new technology such as liquid oxygen and oxygen conservers. They very much valued and enjoyed the forum. They were also really pleased to meet Alan Johnson and they appreciated his visit.”
Alan Johnson MP said:
“I was really pleased to meet home oxygen patients from Hull and hear about how the service enhances their quality of life. Everybody appreciated the forum today as it gave the patients a chance to raise issues of concern to them and for us all to learn more about this important NHS service.
I was also pleased to see the innovative new home oxygen technology that Air Products had on hand. Technological developments like this can really make a difference to patients’ quality of life.”
