As well as the basic safety advice, general cylinder safety advice and advice on leaving the home with a cylinder patients should be advised of the following when transporting their cylinders:
You can transport your cylinders by car provided you follow this advice:
- Always display a warning sticker in the back (offside rear) window. You will find this in your Patient Pack or you can get one by calling us on 0800 373580, 8.00am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Always remove this sticker when not carrying oxygen.
- Inform your insurance company that you will be carrying oxygen.

- Ensure that the cylinders are secured safely in the boot of the vehicle, behind the front seats or on the back seat with a secure fastening. Never transport cylinders in the front passenger seat.
- If transporting several portable cylinders always carry them in a green safety box; we can provide this if needed.
- Individual portable cylinders should be kept in the carry bag.
- Never use oxygen in a fuel station and never smoke while using oxygen in the car.
- Do not store cylinders in your car.

Caution:
You may find large cylinders heavy. Always take care when moving them.
Do not smoke! Do not let anyone smoke near you!
Smoking will aggravate your condition and is dangerous when using oxygen.
