Concentrator tubing

The concentrator can be installed in a patients’ home by the Air Products technician in two ways:

Free line installation

Our technician will advise the patient on the safest place for the concentrator to be kept in the home. The technician will then attach a length of tubing to the concentrator that will allow the patient to walk around the home while using oxygen.

As the tubing is free to move as the patient walks, we advise patients who are frail or at an increased risk of tripping to make sure they are happy to have the tubing move freely around them.

If the patient decides after having a free line installation that this type of installation is not right for them we are happy to visit again and provide a piped-in installation.

Piped-in installation

The Air Products technician will advise the patient of the safest place for the concentrator to be kept in the home.

A piped installation involves the Air Products technician securing the tubing along the skirting board and attaching taps on the wall that allow the patient to direct the flow of oxygen from the concentrator to different rooms in the home. The tubing used measures 5mm in diameter and looks a little thicker than a telephone cable.

The Air Products technician will ensure that no redecoration is needed after the tubing is attached and will seek the patient’s guidance on where best to put the wall taps.
