Cylinder safety instructions

Please advise oxygen users of the following:

  • do not adjust the oxygen flow rate on the cylinder without consulting your doctor
  • do not smoke or let others smoke in the presence of oxygen
  • keep the cylinder away from open flames, cigarettes, stoves or any source of heat
  • never use oil or grease on the cylinder valve (On/Off valve) or equipment - this can greatly increase fire risk
  • do not let children or untrained persons tamper with a cylinder
  • do not cover or hang clothes or dusters on a cylinder
  • close the cylinder valve (on/off valve) when not in use
  • store the cylinder below 50ºC in a well-ventilated place
  • do not place cannula or mask on upholstery or bedding - oxygen may be absorbed increasing fire risk
  • follow the technician’s advice on where to store your cylinders safely
