Surfactants: Surfynol®, Dynol™ and EnvirinGem® Additives
Versatile Surfynol® , Dynol™ and EnviroGem® Surfactants - to make formulator's lives much easier
Welcome to the home of Air Products' Surfynol®, Dynol™ and EnviroGem® additives. These additives are a line of chemically unique products that solve a variety of formulating problems and provide specific performance benefits in a wide variety of waterborne applications. The product line includes wetting agents, defoamers, dispersants and pigment grind aids.
New Products:
EnviroGem® AD01
surfactant: a new powerful defoaming
wetting agent for waterborne and radiation-cured
systems
Dynol 607™ surfactant: low-foam,
nonioninc wetting agent ideal for high performance waterborne
applications
Surfynol®, Dynol™ and EnviroGem® surfactants are a range of non-ionic Gemini surfactants based on acetylenic diol chemistry. Gemini surfactants are more surface-active than their single hydrophile/single hydrophobe analogs, providing multifunctional properties such as surface tension reduction and foam control in one product. Our surfactants can be used to solve numerous common formulating problems and provide a unique combination of performance benefits in various end use applications
In addition to Surfynol® 104, other members of the Surfynol® surfactant family include the ethoxylated Surfynol® 400 series, ethoxylated/propoxylated products such as Surfynol® 2502 and many other formulated products that are designed to meet specific needs. Depending upon the formulation, certain surfactants can offer a combination of benefits, including wetting, dispersancy and defoaming with minimal effect on water sensitivity.
High Performance Solutions
Innovation is one our strength and we are constantly offering you new solutions based on new technologies (see list of new products).
As an example, Dynol™ 604 surfactant is a revolutionary, nonionic wetting agent that is ideal for high-performance waterborne applications. It has the unique ability to reduce both equilibrium and dynamic surface tension to a degree not found with other surfactant chemistries. An outstanding balance of properties makes it an excellent alternative for difficult-to-wet substrates requiring good flow and levelling under diverse application conditions. Also, the use of acetylenic glycol-based Dynol™ 604 surfactant will reduce or eliminate problems such as increased foaminess, water sensitivity, or intercoat adhesion often associated with other additive classes.
Environmentally Friendly Solutions
In developing new products, we are always keeping in mind the industry requirements for environmentally friendly products. In fact, we have recently introduced a new product range combining high performance and environmentally friendly profile that will keep you ahead of the environmental curve: the EnviroGem AE range.
The EnviroGem® AE range of surfactants are readily biodegradable antifoaming wetting agents based on Gemini surfactant technology. These unique additives are 100% active low-viscosity liquids. They show excellent dynamic surface tension reduction and outstanding foam control, allowing defect-free foam control and enhanced flow & leveling.
All three products in the EnviroGem® AE range are classed as 'readily biodegradable' according to OECD test guidelines. These surfactants are VOC & APE-free and also exhibit low to moderate toxicity towards aquatic organisms.
Applications
Surfynol® and EnviroGem® AE surfactants find use in many applications, including paints and coatings, adhesives, inks, dye manufacture and processing, paper coatings, pigment manufacture and dispersion, fountain solutions, agricultural chemicals, latex dipping, industrial and household cleaners, textiles, cements, metalworking fluids, oil field chemicals, waste water treatment. Although Surfynol® and EnviroGem® AE are primarily used in water-based systems, they also find application in selective solvent-based and solvent-free systems such as radiation-cured systems.
Typical Dynol™ 604 surfactant applications include metal, plastic, wood, and other high-performance waterborne coatings, as well as printing inks and waterborne adhesives.
More Than Just Products
Air Products offers technical support via formulating and application services. With more than 30 years experience in the field of surface chemistry, Air Products has technical capabilities and an expert staff that are second to none. As an industry leader, we have dedicated significant resources to product and applications development. One example of this is our applications testing laboratory. This facility duplicates a customer's coating and other applications and testing equipment so that we can run any number of tests and evaluations without disrupting the customer's operation.
