Campylobacteriosis is the most frequently reported foodborne illness in the EU. According to the EFSA, every year, around 200,000 people are diagnosed with it. Real numbers would be more around 9 million and would have a related cost of around 2.4 billion a year. This illness is caused by campylobacter bacteria. In many cases, the contamination is caused by the bacteria’s presence on the surface of the chicken after evisceration.
Air Products’ experts have worked with poultry processors to develop the patented Freshline® SafeChill™ System. This unique intervention uses super-chilled air to effectively reduce the campylobacter presence on contaminated broiler carcasses.
