Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)

MAP, (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) is also referred to as gas flushing or gas flush. Usually combined with lowered temperatures, it is a proven effective way of prolonging shelf life, enabling the food to look and taste better for longer. In Europe, MAP mainly involves the use of three gases - carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen and oxygen, although other gases can be used. Products are packed in a single gas or a combination of these gases depending on the physical and chemical properties of the food. These gases create a protective atmosphere which reduces microbial growth and other unwanted reactions resulting in a shelf life extension of the product packaged.

Air Products offer a variety of supply modes depending on your requirements. From cylinders – including our unique Freshline® Plus cylinder with a built-in bacterial filter and antibacterial coating – to our CryoEase® Micro Bulk and liquid bulk services. We also offer onsite gas generation and mixing systems.
